Overview

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for originating mortgage loans by engaging with potential borrowers and guiding them through the loan process. This includes preparing, analyzing, and verifying mortgage loan applications for the purchase, construction, or refinancing of residential real estate. The role requires strict adherence to the Credit Union’s Loan Policy and Procedures while ensuring full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, laws, and agency requirements. The Mortgage Loan Officer must also deliver exceptional service to borrowers, maintaining a high level of professionalism and accuracy throughout the loan lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and Maintains Relationships: Establishes and nurtures partnerships with realtors, developers, builders, and other Credit Union branches to drive mortgage business growth and retention.
  • Advises Applicants/Borrowers: Meets with potential borrowers to explain various mortgage options, including portfolio, government, and conventional loans. Guides applicants in selecting the best loan product to meet their financial goals, in compliance with Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Loan Application Processing: Collects and verifies all necessary borrower information and documentation to complete loan applications accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with all residential mortgage lending rules, regulations, and guidelines. Provides required disclosures to borrowers within the regulatory timeframes.
  • Ongoing Communication: Maintains consistent and transparent communication with borrowers throughout the loan process, ensuring timely approvals and smooth closings.
  • Industry Knowledge and Training: Participates in ongoing training to stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and to maintain required certifications.
  • Upholds Professional Standards: Performs all duties with integrity, confidentiality, and respect for borrowers and colleagues, ensuring a superior member experience.
  • Member Service Excellence: Delivers exceptional service by assisting borrowers and supporting Credit Union associates with high-quality product delivery.
  • Community Engagement: Represents the Credit Union at community events and professional associations to promote products and services and strengthen community ties.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Performs other tasks as needed to ensure outstanding member service and effective delivery of Credit Union products.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-years experience in financial services and be an initiative-taker.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be proficient with computers, with Basic to Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be adaptable to the changes in the mortgage market.
  • Must have an active or able to obtain a NMLS license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
