Overview

The Accounting Intern will support the Accounting team by assisting with daily financial operations and general ledger activities. This role provides hands-on experience in credit union accounting functions, including reconciliations, data entry, and transaction processing. The intern will work closely with experienced accounting professionals to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records while gaining valuable insight into the financial operations of a credit union.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll activities by recording, posting, and reconciling transactions.
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations related to VISA daily settlements, ATMs, branches, and teller reports.
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, noting debits and credits that have not been posted.
  • Balance and reconcile MSR and ATM balance sheets.
  • Balance and post the daily cash letter and process necessary adjustments.
  • Identify and correct discrepancies or errors that may occur due to data entry.
  • Enter data into accounting software, including posting credit life and disability payments to member accounts.
  • Enter invoices into the accounts payable module for processing and payment.
  • Assist with general ledger bookkeeping and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Process the Zero Balance Prime Share report on a monthly basis.
  • Check and distribute daily courier work.
  • Provide support to accounting team members and assist with additional accounting functions as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in a bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
