Overview

The Assistant Teller Manager/Universal Banker delivers a consultative, proactive, and member-focused banking experience by assisting with transactions, identifying financial needs and recommending appropriate solutions. This role supports overall teller operations, maintains accurate records and provides exceptional member experiences. This role is responsible for achieving sales and service goals while efficiently handling a wide range of service requests. The Assistant Teller Manager/Universal Banker is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of credit union products, security procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and safeguard member information.

Responsibilities

Member Support & Teller Service

  • Proactively engage members in the lobby to understand their reason for visiting, assess financial needs, and provide positive, solution-focused interactions.
  • Deliver accurate and professional service by assisting with financial transactions, maintaining proper records, and ensuring a safe and secure environment.
  • Address member inquiries, resolve issues, and educate members on available banking channels, digital tools, and financial literacy topics such as budgeting, savings, and credit management.
  • Open and service a variety of account types including savings, checking, certificates, and IRAs.
  • Perform teller functions that include accepting deposits and payments, processing withdrawals, issuing official checks, and maintaining a balanced cash drawer.
  • Authority to permit availability of funds for checks up to and including $10,000 without further approval.

 

Sales, Relationship Building & Product Promotion

  • Serve as a loan interviewer and processor by assisting members with applications, preparing documentation, and tracking loan status.
  • Conduct file maintenance, process account changes, and ensure accuracy and compliance with internal controls, security procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of credit union products, services, and policies in order to provide tailored advice that aligns with member goals.
  • Understand member needs and proactively recommend appropriate products and services, helping members use available tools to manage their financial lives.
  • Build and strengthen relationships through memorable member experiences and intentional follow-up, including outbound calls that deepen engagement and thoughtfully recommend products and services aligned with members’ financial goals.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve member service by identifying issues, anticipating concerns, and offering thoughtful solutions.
  • Accurately communicate financial products and services to members including benefits, requirements and any associated fees or costs.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities & Team Collaboration

  • Acts as Teller Manager in their absence, overseeing vault balancing, cash security, and all dual-control and negotiable instruments.
  • Assist with instructing associates in the areas of security procedures and internal controls.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve branch, sales, and service goals.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing development to expand product knowledge and enhance service capabilities.
  • Support branch initiatives and contribute to a positive, member-focused work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring accountability and alignment with organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in sales or a sales support role.
  • Prior head tellering experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact confidently with members required.
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task, work independently, and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate a sales-focused approach to building member relationships and to proactively self-learn Credit Union products and services.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations and successfully complete the Credit Union’s in-house training program within a reasonable timeframe required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with core banking systems preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates a plus.
